Bottle top collection
9 Dec 2025

Please see the message below from Ann Langis:

Thank you for being Recycling Heroes and participating in our bottle top collection scheme this year!

As the year comes to a close it's time to count up the bottle tops and award the $1000 cash prize to the school who has collected the most bottle tops (in ratio to your roll).

Please encourage your students to collect as many bottle tops as they can over these final weeks of school.  We'll come by to collect the boxes on Tuesday the 16th of December and let you know the outcome asap.   Then, at the start of next year, we'll formally announce the winner and we'd love to present the award at one of your school assemblies.

Please let me know if you have any questions or feedback!

Whānau Puna - Weekly Update
5 Dec 2025

Kia ora e te whānau,

A great week again in Whānau Puna (Rooms 7, 8, 9 and 10).

In literacy Room 9 have their new shared text - Santa Post, by Emma Yarlett. We have been learning when to use ‘a’ and ‘an’ before words in a sentence. Children have also written their Santa letters. Room 10 have been exploring the traditional story - ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas by Clement C Moore. This week we have been reviewing antonyms and writing creatively in response to the story. In Room 7 and 8 we have been writing about our technology unit- The Design Process. We wrote about how we worked in groups to test out our games, materials and designs.

In maths this week we have been working on:

Room 7/8 - Recap of the previous units such as money, length and data.

Room 9 - Writing the amount of money, counting money

Room 10 - the value of the tens and ones in a number and be able to use multiple methods of representing and constructing a number.

Remember - hats all Term 4.

Swimming for the next two weeks is on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Children need to bring their togs, towel and a bag to keep these in. They can also bring a swim cap and/or goggles if they want to. Please make sure their swimming gear is named.

This is our final week to send reading books home. Please have a hunt around your house for stray readers and return them as soon as possible.

Whānau Kokoru Weekly Update
5 Dec 2025

Kia ora koutou,

It is hard to believe there are only 2 weeks of this year left - it feels like this term has just sped by.

In maths-
Year 4 has been continuing to explore finding the perimeter of composite shapes, and has also started looking at area.
Year 5 has been continuing to work on finding the perimeter, area, and mass of different shapes.
Year 6 has been learning about algebra. We have identified patterns and the rules for these, and represented these patterns using both numbers and variables (letters representing an unknown number).

Rūma Rua have finished the week reading plays and presenting them to the class. During writing, they have been revisiting adverbs and adjectives and including them in their sentences.

All classes have been working hard on their learning adventures and are currently making and testing prototypes. Students are making a range of games and pop up picture books. They have been learning about the design thinking process, and practicing being reflective to improve their designs.

As part of our STEM program the students have been lucky to take part in the day of AI with Jo. This was very interesting learning for everybody.

The year 6s have had a very busy week. As a thank you for all their hard work with road patrol this year they got to visit Rainbows End on Tuesday. Everyone enjoyed going on different rides and had a wonderful time. They also got to visit Belmont Intermediate on Wednesday to meet their teachers and classes for next year which was very exciting - and maybe a little nerve-wracking!

A few end of year reminders to finish off. The pool is now open - students need to be bringing their togs and a towel on Wednesdays and Thursdays for swimming. Also all library books are now due back. Please have a good look around your house and return any books/readers/journals you may find. Thank you for your help with this.

Finally prize giving in next Friday, starting at 1:30pm in the hall. It would be wonderful to see many of you there to celebrate our students successes this year.

Ngā mihi,
Whānau Kokoru - Maddy, Grace, and Brad
